About the work

This work displays hints of the anthropomorphic underpinning of Howard Taylor's 'Forest figure' and 'Winged figure' series. A subject he revised on numerous occasions and realised across a full range of representational and abstract idioms, Forest figures have become one of the key central themes unifying his oeuvre. Double self-portrait is one of only two self-portraits both of which are in the collection of the Art Gallery of Western Australia.
