About the work


This rangga, or sacred totem, is used in the Dua Narra age-grading ceremony, which is for the old men only.The dances and songs tell of the animals and plants, including the yam, which this artifact depicts. The yam is shown in its various stages of development. Here it is matured, It provides food for the spirit of the deceased on the trip to the Island of the Dead. collected: fidock #21, 1964
