About the work


This is an unusual painting, done by a painter from Mountain Valley, near Beswick Creek on the south edge of the Arnhem Lan Reserve. The painting is for ceremony of the Waugelak mala, or clan. The black bream is called "Matpuna" in the Waugelak tongue. It is a "Garma" totem.
