Paddy JAMINJI: artist
Paddy Jaminji was a Gija man born in 1912 on Bedford Downs Station in the East Kimberley. Jaminji spent all of his life in the region and in the 1970s was the first to paint a series of Krill Krill under the guidance of his nephew Rover Thomas who had dreamed of the ceremony.
Kimberley Landscape is a wonderful example of Jaminji's work. Tjamitji paints his Country in the rich ochres seen often in art from the East Kimberley.
Fine white dots are used to encase section of colour that abstractly survey the landscape and vegetation. Jaminji's paintings are a reflection of the unique relationship he had with his Country.
