About the work


This painting depicts the Wawilak story. It shows the serpent Yurlungurr emerging from the sacred waterhole, Mirramina. This is the waterhole where the Wailak sisters camped and were swallowed by the great snake in the myth. The sacred pandana tree is shown in the bottom edge of the waterhole.
