About the work


This shows the possum tree story. The top right hand of this bark shows the traveling cloud which is the personal insignia of Narridjin and is painted on his chest when he performs this ceremony. The turtle in the center indicates Narridjin’s original home on Groote Eylandt. The bottom panel shows the night bird Karawak and the Gunyan crabs
crawling at the foot of the cliff at Djerakoi. 65” x 23”
