The plane tree of memory
Jenny WATSON: artist
The paper collage items come from Indian publications or packaging, gathered during the artist’s visit to India in 1986 for the Sixth Triennial of India, Delhi, when she was awarded the Gold Medal. The paint is washes of pigment bought at an Indian art store where they made their own paints. The washes are pigment in water; the friable paint is pigment in rabbit skin glue. The creases in the canvas are from the folding of the canvas when it was bought in India and they are integral to the work. Her art work has elements of change and aging, especially from this period of her practice.
