About the work

Nowadays, hollow log coffins are referred to by the same names given to the hollow log burial ceremony – a mortuary ceremony unique to the people of Arnhem Land. The ceremony and coffins are equally known as Dupun, Lorrkon, Djalumbu, Badurru, Mudukundja, Mululu and Larajeje or Larrakitj. The different names reflect some of the many languages spoken across the Arnhem Land region.
