About the work

Error of closure is a pivotal work in Susan Norrie's practice and one of her most ambitious works. Typically this installation demonstrates her fondness for the Surrealist mode of juxtaposition and contrast, creating an unsettling dialogue between sources and media that have historically been characterised as separate and different. She works across painting, sculpture, photography and with ‘readymade’ and art historical sources to invoke associations between one component being activated only through the relationship with the other objects in the ensemble. It is through this dynamic interaction that Error of closure meditates on surface, lightness, chance and mortality. It is as if the blindfolded woman stands in for Norrie herself, conjuring up the complex and uncanny web of connections in the world.
