About the work

Wuramu are grave posts that are placed at the grave, or in the main camp if the deceased’s body is resting on a platform. In the past, bodies were placed on platforms as part of the mortuary process (Berndt and Berndt 1985).

Similar to pukumani poles (tutini), wuramu posts represent abstract forms of the human body and differ in style and sculptural form.
