Kain panjang skirt cloth or hip wrapper in cotton, tulis natural dyes of brown, indigo, light blue and white with wisps of green and yellow on leaves.
Badan of four dramatic large crescent moons and stars with chequered blue and brown. Vertical sprays of leaves and flowers overlaid on them in colours of light blue and white flowers with autumn leaves in yellow, brown and green. The background filled with tiny flowers and tendrils. Base border in single flower heads only. From Kudus, Java in Indonesia.
Note: Kain pagi sore came into wider use during World War II as their style appealed to the Japanese, who became important consumers for high quality batik. Kudus, being near enough to the eastern coast of Java between Lasem and Pekalongan is influenced in both directions. Much batik is commissioned by travellers between towns.
