The Cape family

About the work

Lanyon was interested in representing the totality of our experience of the landscape. As he said, 'I am trying to paint my environment both inside and out'. In Cape family, he expresses this by locating a family deep within a floating, abstracted representation of the mining area of Cape Cornwall. The mother is on the right, the father is on the left and the children are nestled in the centre.
