About the work

George 'Hairbrush' Tjungurrayi is a senior artist of international standing who began painting for Papunya Tula Artists in 1976. The artist is well known for his
evolving abstract paintings that chronicle the Tingari cycle-a series of Dreaming narratives about Tingari men who travelled at the time of Creation-of which
this artwork is about. ·
The painting presented here is similar in narrative to two other paintinqs by Tiunqurravi in the State Art Collection. However this paintinq differs in its form of abstraction, as the artist has used a series of connecting and concentric straight and curved
lines to represent the Tingari. Whereas, one of the two other works
is composed of lines and circles, and the other is a series of stripey lines.
