Fiona FOLEY: artist
In a subversive
fashion Foley presents to her audience the Hedonistic Hanky Haters, a group
of activists who came together in the 1960's as a response to the American
race hate group, the Ku Klux Klan. With obvious visual references to the
Ku Klux Klan's menacingly iconic costume, including robe and conical hat,
Foley has created a cue that instinctively triggers reflection of the
abominations inflicted upon people of colour in the United States of America,
Australia, Africa and many other parts of the world. These works, as with
many of Foley's photographs and installations challenge the legitimate
representations of race portrayed by the media and those in positions of
power, throughout history.
