About the work

This diptych work on paper draws on a record cover with its V for Victory configuration by the British ‘80s rock band, Nitzer Ebb. Jeppe then expands graphically upon this motif with a text phrase from their 1988 song Control I’m Here which Jeppe reworks in an Art Deco aesthetic. Jeppe’s practice, which ranges across sculpture, painting, photography, writing and publishing, draws on his experience of both art and cultural studies and takes a free-wheeling approach to place, time and medium references. Within this shifting terrain, his work is located between the possibilities of deconstructing authenticity and the simulation of the real. In addition, the surfaces and effects of his work appear as representative of ideas, historical traditions and modes of thinking that are reformulated through his own idiosyncratic vernacular.
