About the work

Helen Creeth trained in London, and as a result her work reflects the influence of the English Arts and Crafts movement. However her choice to depict Western Australian native flowers (Hardenbergia comptoniana) shows her awareness of aesthetic debates around Australian Federation, which advocated the use of local flora as a way to demonstrate political and cultural autonomy from England.
