About the work

O’Neil is known for her large graphite on paper drawings, usually of groups of people, which investigate the human condition. Her works often refer to psychological landscapes due to their emotionally charged content. This drawing provides a concise evocation of a crowd of people walking in one direction, with the experience of being alone in a group, and contrasts with the single disaffected figure of Stephen Shore’s self-portrait to the right.
