Louis KAHAN: artist

Louis Kahan first trained in his family’s business
as a master tailor, but he was drawn to art from an early age. Kahan moved to Paris in 1925, working as a tailor and designer, and when war broke out he joined the Foreign Legion and went to North Africa as a war artist. As part of his own personal war effort Kahan drew thousands of portraits of wounded Allied soldiers like these, and copies of them, signed “by a guy from Paris”, were sent to families and loved ones.
