About the work

Local Western Australian artist Abdul-Rahman Abdullah has explored memory and the domestic environment of his urban Australia childhood with a quiet poetry and subtlety. The moon references Ramadan, the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, which begins with the sighting of the new moon and marks a period of prayer, fasting and charity for the people of Muslim faith globally. The full moon marks the middle point of the fast, and for Abdullah it brings back memories of his family’s closeness and connection.
