About the work

Kayleigh #1 carries forward Miller’s long-standing interest in embedded portraiture, the human form in the landscape or in interiors. As with all his work, what is in play here is a conversation between persona, landscape and light. Within it, Kayleigh appears as an intense, vibrant apparition in the down beat suburb she’s shown in, resembling, perhaps, a striking actress shot between takes in some kind of suburban-gothic drama. The soft, lush light Miller activates extends this sense, creating a heightened mood, full of feeling; everything is transformed, while at the same time quite ordinary.
