Cross your heart

About the work

I painted this picture to show how western objects have been used by
women in my community. One such object is the bra, and the Playtex
‘Cross Your Heart’ bra.
This picture symbolises how many elder women throughout
communities’ strip down to their skirts and bra to walk through the bush
to find food, and maintain Country, for the benefit of future generations.
I painted an elder woman gesturing upward and with her body springing
from a Kurrajong tree, as a symbol of her being a part of nature.
