About the work

Monster-maker is a bust portrait of the artist’s younger brother Abdul Abdullah, wearing the Planet of the Apes mask. It is in reference to the younger brother’s work You See Monsters from the Siege series, two of which are displayed opposite. It is a familial portrait done with exactitude and kindness, and a gesture cementing their joint commitment to the power of art to change the world for the better.
