245T
Michael Jalaru TORRES: artist
In the 1970s the WA APB hired more than 300 men to eradicate the weeds—Noogoora Burr and Parkinsonia—that were affecting livestock across northern Western Australia. The herbicide the men sprayed contained the now-banned substance 245T—an ingredient in the defoliant Agent Orange. The side-effects and its legacy continues to haunt the generations of West Kimberley families of those men. Beyond the families affected, very few individuals are aware of the legacy of 245T (Michael Jalaru Torres 2018).
