About the work


The cone roofed building in this painting was the first Fremantle lighthouse, constructed in 1849. In the mid-1870s the top of this lighthouse was removed and the building was converted to a flag room. The second Fremantle lighthouse was built in 1876. Both the lighthouse and the converted flag room were demolished c1905.
