About the work

As part of the circumcision ceremonies for young boys, the story of the life and habits of the tortoise is told in song and dance. The tortoise is an important totem of the Djambarrpuynu Clan, to which Binyinyuwui belongs. Here we can see four specimens swimming through the sea, in search of food. The cross-hatched background represents the sea.
